History of Hoosiers Indiana University historian James Madison received the annual Honorary Member award from the Society of Indiana Pioneers, a club comprising descendants of the state's early settlers. Madison is the author of eight books, mostly about Indiana, including biographies of Eli Lilly and Wendell Willkie.
