It is hard to believe that Alex Avery was being serious in his recent letter advocating faculty carrying weapons as a good way to avert tragedies such as the one recently perpetrated at Virginia Tech. As a civilized society, do we really want to take a step back into the Wild West days to try and solve this problem?
