The embattled Humane Society of Polk County, which had not functioned as an active organization since the doors to its shelter closed Oct. 1, 2006, now has two boards of directors that each claim to be its true governing body, with separate agendas and supporters. One seeks to dissolve the corporation while the other is trying desperately to get it up and running again.
