To all religious people - how can you be so sure?

Growing up I have had so many unanswered questions and took it upon myself to research the origins of religions...

The way I see things now is completely different to accepting everything I was taught. So what I want to ask you all, is how can you be so sure that the God you pray to is the one and the way you do it is the right way?

When I have read about the history of religion it's different to what we practice today. People have changed things to suit them and frequently interpret the bible in the way that they want. Some use it to control others etc. Shouldn't we accept that there is a God - but not remain tied to how and what other people think we should be doing to appease him? (that is if you're a believer of course).

Atheists almost seem to have a valid argument, how can you trully follow something that you do not understand and hope that answers will come through prayer alone. How about actually looking at the history of Christianity and all the good and bad that came with it. For example - the other books which were not included in the bible - why and how and what do they teach us if anything.

And the general history of what you believe in - how can you be so sure if you are just following your mother and she may not be so sure too and your grandma is also a believer due to tradition etc . . . .
