ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ॥ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥
Ḏīn ḏaraḏ ḏukẖ bẖanjnā gẖat gẖat nāth anāth. Saraṇ ṯumĥārī ā▫i▫o Nānak ke parabẖ sāth. ||1||
The saviour from misery and hurt of the poor, the helper of the forlorn. I am at your door creator, holding the coattails of Guru Nanak.
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥
Eight stanzas hymn.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਮਾਲੁ ਖਜੀਨਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
Har har jan kai māl kẖajīnā. Har ḏẖan jan ka▫o āp parabẖ ḏīnā.
The creator’s understanding is treasure for the humble. The gift of understanding is bestowed by the creator by self on the humble.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਓਟ ਸਤਾਣੀ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਿ ਜਨ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Har har jan kai ot saṯāṇī. Har parṯāp jan avar na jāṇī.
For the humble creator’s understanding provides strong support. In creator’s presence, the humble recognize none other.
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥ ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
Oṯ poṯ jan har ras rāṯe. Sunn samāḏẖ nām ras māṯe.
The humble appear like a woven cloth drenched in creator’s understanding. In happy tranquility of creator’s understanding, there are no distractions.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਗਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਨਹੀ ਛਪੈ ॥
Āṯẖ pahar jan har har japai. Har kā bẖagaṯ pargat nahī cẖẖapai.
Twenty four hours, the humble stay understanding aware of the creator. The pious follower of the creator shines and is not hidden.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤਰੇ ॥੭॥
Har kī bẖagaṯ mukaṯ baho kare. Nānak jan sang keṯe ṯare. ||7||
The wise study of the creator provides salvation to many. Just association with such humble benefits many others.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji sets the objective of discourse in Astpadi 2. In understanding of the creator solutions are found for the forsaken, deserted, in misery and in sickness. Guru ji humbly submit to the aware company of the creator.
Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 2nd, 7th sabad describe how creator’s understanding enriches, one does not need to recognize else, always aware is fundamental and that such are always visible for how they are.
Creator’s understanding provides salvation and even company of people with such qualities greatly benefits.

1. Recognizing none else than One Creator
Quote:
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਿ ਜਨ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
Har parṯāp jan avar na jāṇī.
In creator’s presence, the humble recognize none other.
In “Mool Mantar” ੴ (Ik▫oaʼnkār) present everywhere is espoused. So the above teaches a Sikh to focus on but one ੴ (Ik▫oaʼnkār).
