PATIALA: Professor Harbans Singh Department of Encyclopaedia of Sikhism of Punjabi University, Patiala, today organized Sardarni Kailash Kaur memorial lecture in the university. Professor Balwant Singh Dhillon, Director, Center on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev University, presented his lecture on the topic Persian Authors on Gurbani and Guruship of Sikhism on this occasion. Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, presided over the Lecture.

Stressing on the need of Persian Sources Professor Balwant Singh Dhillon opined that these writings are very significant in a way because they provide a peep into the outside image of the Sikhs. Instead of evaluating their narratives of events of relating to the Sikh history we will examine their observations on Gurbani and Guruship of Sikhism. Elaborating further he said that our search into the Persian writings reveals that there are a number of Persian works which deal with our subject of enquiry. Most of them have referred to the Sikhs and their religion in a casual manner. In fact they were not directly concerned with the issue therefore they have negligible interest in the Sikh religion and its history. The number of writings is quite significant and the variety they offer is also very uncommon. The references found recorded in the Persian chronicles are no less insignificant as they provide a peep into the window to look into the outsiders
