Guru Arjan Dev ji Maharaj speaks to us in the Sorath Raag and in the Sorath Raag when Guru ji speaks to us in the first house of Taals, thithukae, this means each part of theshabad has 3 lines each.

Guru ji starts off with the Mangala Charan, ik oa(n)kaar sathigur prasaadh , there is one eternal, creative, nourishing, destructive being who is found through the sat, the True Guruprasad, the True Guru’s Grace.

Guru ji says kis ho jaachee kis aaraadhhee jaa sabh ko keethaa hosee, who should I jaachee who should I ask from, who should I beg from, kis ho, means who, kis aaraadhhee, aaraadhhee means worship, and who should I worship, jaa sabh ko keethaa hosee, jaa, when, sabh ko means everything, keethaai means to be done by, hosee, by Akal Purakh, when everything is being done by Waheguru, why should I worship anyone else, Guru ji is saying.

jo jo dheesai vaddaa vaddaeraa so so khaakoo ralasee, Guru ji says jo jo dheesai, everyone who I see dheesai means to see, vaddaa vaddaeraa means the highest of high, even the greatest of the great, so so khaakoo ralasee, all of them, khaakoo ralasee, khaakoo, means dust, ralasee means be mixed in with, those people all mix with dust in the end. All the Alexander the Greats in this world, all the conquerors of this world, all those people with so much of everything, who have been counted as the world’s greatest, all of them end up mixing in dust.

Guru ji says nirabho nira(n)kaar bhav kha(n)ddan sabh sukh nav nidhh dhaesee, O Waheguru You are nirabho, You are fearless, You are nira(n)kaar, You cannot be seen by any form, You are above all forms, bhav kha(n)ddan, bhav means fear, kha(n)ddan means destroyer, You are the destroyer of all fear, sabh sukh, You are the Giver of all sabh means all sukh means peace, nav nidhh dhaesee and You give the nav nidhh, the nine treasures You give them, Waheguru You can give all treasures.

har jeeo thaeree dhaathee raaja, har jeeo O my beloved Waheguru, thaeree dhaathee raaja, raaja, I am satisfied by thaeree dhaathee, Your gifts, only Your gifts Waheguru can satisfy me.

Guru ji says maanas bapurraa kiaa saalaahee kiaa this kaa muhathaajaa, why should I saalaahee, kiaa , means why, why should I saalaahee, why should I praise, maanas bapurraa, bapurraa means poor, maanas means man, why should I praise anyone other than You Waheguru, bapurraa means helpless, weak, why should I praise man who is weak, when I have You to praise? kiaa this kaa muhathaajaa, Guru ji says why should I be muhathaajaa, why should I serve a man. What Guru ji is saying here is focus upon Waheguru, there is no need to focus upon anyone else. Rehaao, Guru ji says pause and think about this.

jin har dhhiaaeiaa sabh kishh this kaa this kee bhookh gavaaee, those people who have dhhiaaeiaa, who have meditated upon Hari, upon Waheguru, sabh kishh this kaa everything belongs to them, sabh kishh means everything, this kaa means belongs to them; this kee bhookh gavaaee, why, because their bhookh, their hunger inside, their thirst, their desires have been gavaaee, have been quenched, have been taken away.

aisaa dhhan dheeaa sukhadhaathai nikhutt n kab hee jaaee, the sukhadhaathai, the Giver of all peace, Waheguru has given them aisaa means such, dhhan means wealth, He has given us such a wealth, inside them, of Naam, of meditation, of peace, of tranquility, of harmony, nikhutt n kab hee jaaee, they can never nikhutt, they can never finish, they can never be exhausted, they can never be tired.

anandh bhaeiaa sukh sehaj samaanae sathigur mael milaaee, those people, bhaeiaa means to go into, they go into complete celestial bliss, into complete anandh, sukh sehaj samaanae , they fall into sukh, they fall into happiness and sehaj, intuitive balance within them, why, because sathigur mael milaaee, because the True Guru has mael milaaee, has united them with Akal Purakh, with Waheguru.

man naam jap naam aaraadhh anadhin naam vakhaanee, man, O my mind, meditate upon the Naam, naam aaraadhh , worship the Naam, aaraadhh , means worship; anadhin naam vakhaanee, anadhin means day and night, vakhaanee means to chant, day and night chant the name of Waheguru.

oupadhaes sun saadhh sa(n)than kaa sabh chookee kaan jamaanee, oupadhaes sun, listen to the teachings of who, oupadhaes means teachings or wisdom, Guru ji is saying listen to the teachings and wisdom of who, saadhh sa(n)than kaa, of the holy saints, of the sadhus, of the sants. When you listen to their wisdom, their teaching, what happens? sabh chookee kaan jamaanee all the kaan, all the fear inside you, of jamaanee, of death, will be chookee, will be removed.

jin ko kirapaal hoaa prabh maeraa sae laagae gur kee baanee, those people upon who prabh maeraa, prabh maeraa , means my Waheguru has been kirpal, has been merciful, sae laagae gur kee baanee, those people are attached to Guru ki bani, to the Word of the Guru.

keemath koun karai prabh thaeree thoo sarab jeeaa dhaeiaalaa O Waheguru who can keemath, who can estimate Your worth, no one can estimate Your worth Waheguru, koun karai prabh thaeree , O Waheguru, why, because thoo sarab jeeaa dhaeiaalaa, You are dhaeiaalaa, You are merciful upon sarab jeeaa, sarab jeeaa means everyone, even those people who hate You, You are merciful upon them.

sabh kishh keethaa thaeraa varathai kiaa ham baal gupaalaa, sabh kishh means everything, keethaa means being done, thaeraa varathai means by You, everything which is being done, is being done by You; kiaa ham baal gupaalaa, O gupaalaa, O Waheguru, O preserver of the Earth, kiaa ham baal, kiaa means what baal means I am just a child, I am just a poor child Waheguru, what can I do, You do everything.

raakh laehu naanak jan thumaraa jio pithaa pooth kirapaalaa, Guru ji says O Waheguru, raakh laehu, please protect me, naanak jan thumaraa, Nanak is Your jan, Nanak is Your servant, Nanak is Your child; jio pithaa pooth kirapaalaa, be merciful upon me, be kirapaalaa upon me, like a pithaa pooth, like a father is merciful upon his child.
Guru ji is saying in this Shabad, there is no need to fall at the feet of anyone else, fall at the feet of Waheguru and the Satguru and you will find everything.

har jeeo thaeree dhaathee raaja || maanas bapurraa kiaa saalaahee kiaa this kaa muhathaajaa || rehaao ||

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa! Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
