Ben Elton’s High Society is an extraordinary novel. This is not only due to its unrelenting narrative drive, Elton’s inimitable ear for the idioms and cadences of British speech, or his underlying black humour. It is an extraordinary novel in that, while it is fiction, it so easily could be fact.
