Investor's Business Daily - Chain stores' same-store sales rose 2.7% in the week ended Oct. 27 vs. a year earlier, according to a report by the Int'l Council of Shopping Centers and UBS Securities. Comparable sales rose 0.1% vs. the week before, when sales fell 2.7%. "Halloween is the likely cause for the latest week's lift, since the warm weather, fires in California and higher gasoline prices were clearly negative factors," said Mike Niemira, chief economist at the council.
